Same weirdness, new medium: why Print Bang went digital
Print Bang started with a 3D printer I bought purely for the fun of it. I wanted to see what I could make, and the answer turned out to be “a lot of very specific things for very specific fans”. Game-inspired keychains, gothic décor, a tiny glowing ghost in a terrarium. If something I wanted didn’t exist, I designed it and printed it.
That little habit became a shop. More than 450 orders and over a hundred reviews (with a perfect 5.0 rating) later, it’s clear there are plenty of people out there with the same weird tastes as me. Hi!
So why change?
Because shipping physical things got harder every year. Customs forms, import rules, packaging requirements, the time it takes to print, finish, pack and post every single order… It all adds up, and every hour spent on logistics was an hour not spent making new things.
Digital products don’t have that problem. A character sheet reaches someone in Lisbon or Louisiana in the same second, and I get to spend my time on the part I actually love: the ideas.
What isn’t changing
The personality. Print Bang is still about mixing my nerdy passions (games, TTRPGs, collecting, a bit of the gothic and mystical) into things that make your hobbies more fun. It’s still clever, a bit strange and made with care. The medium changes, not the weirdness.
The printer isn’t going anywhere either. A few handmade pieces are still in the shop while stock lasts.
What’s first
The first digital family is Nightbloom: twelve D&D 5e character sheets, one for every class, that do the maths for you. Type your level and scores, and modifiers, saves, skills, spell DCs and class trackers fill themselves in, for 2014 or 2024 rules. You can try one live right now, no download needed.
What’s next is partly up to you
I have a workbench full of ideas: a backlog “casino” for people with too many unplayed games, a panic button for game masters, a family party game with themed question packs. I’ll build what people actually want, so vote for your favourites and you’ll be the first to know when they’re ready.
Thanks for being part of the weirdness. Here’s to the next chapter.
Dan
